PRESS RELEASE July 15, 2020 FCSO PARTICIPATING IN OPERATION SOUTHERN SHIELD

Florence County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in Operation Southern Shield 2020, a state wide traffic enforcement operation sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Network. The operation will begin on Sunday, July 19, 2020 and concludes on Saturday, July 25, 2020. During the operation, you can expect to see an increase in traffic enforcement by FCSO deputies focusing on the primary causes of traffic fatalities, speed and non-use of seat belts.

“Recently, we have noticed a trend of higher speeds on Florence County roadways resulting in more speed related crashes involving injuries and death,” Sheriff Billy Barnes stated. “Participating with SC DPS in this state wide operation is consistent with our mission to make our roadways as safe as possible and reduce traffic fatalities. At all times, but especially during Operation Southern Shield, please cooperate by observing the speed laws and wear your seat belt. The life you save may be your own, or someone you love.”
