FCSO MAKES ARREST IN DRIVE-BY SHOOTING


SUBJECT: Nashawn Ali James, age19, of 818 East Scarlett Lane, Florence, SC 29505 was arrested on June 16, 2020 by Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office and charged with three (3) counts of Attempted Murder (S.C. SUBJECT: Ky’Ree Antwaun Taylor, age19, of 4413 Charlie Cade Road, Effingham, SC 29541 was arrested on June 16, 2020 by Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office and charged with three (3) counts of Attempted Murder (S.C. SUBJECT: Robert Jamar Benjamin, age21, of 2620 West John Paul Jones Road, Effingham, SC 29541 was arrested on June 16, 2020 by Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office and charged with three (3) counts of Attempted Murder (S.C. Code Ann. 16-3-029) and one count of Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime (S.C. Code Ann. 16-23-490). See FCSO Booking Website for additional details.

NARRATIVE: FCSO Investigators have arrested three suspects in connection with the drive-by shooting which occurred shortly after 4:00 PM yesterday on Gaillard Street in Florence, SC. According to Investigators, Nashawn Ali James, Ky’Ree Antwaun Taylor and Robert Jamar Benjamin are alleged to have driven past the location where several individuals were congregating and opened fire from the vehicle, striking three victims. All of the victims were transported to an area hospital where they have received treatment for gunshot wounds. No additional information on the condition of the victims is available at this time.

Investigators have charged all three suspects with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime in connection with the incident. Investigators believe that this incident is related to an earlier drive-by shooting which occurred on North Coit Street in Florence. That incident is being investigated by the Florence City Police Department.

“This senseless violence on our streets has to stop,” Sheriff Billy Barnes stated. “We appreciate the cooperation and assistance of the community in the investigation and applaud the splendid work of our Deputies and Investigators in apprehending these suspects.”

James, Taylor and Benjamin will be held at the Florence County Detention Center pending a bond hearing before a Circuit Court judge.
