FLORENCE SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE BOARD MEMBER CHARGED WITH EMBEZZLEMENT


SUBJECT: Edward James McIver, age 77, of 706 Carver Street, Florence, SC 29501 was arrested by Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office on September 26, 2019 and charged with one count of Embezzlement of Public Funds (value less than $10,000)(S.C. Code Ann. 16-13-210(A)) and one count of Misconduct in Office (S.C. Code Ann. 08-01-080). See FCSO Booking Website for additional details.

NARRATIVE: Following an extensive investigation, Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Edward James McIver on Thursday, September 26, 2019 with one count of Embezzlement of Public Funds and one count of Misconduct in Office. According to Investigators, between the dates of January 12, 2016 and August 25, 2019 McIver is alleged to have converted public funds to personal use. Investigators allege that McIver used school district funds designated to attend a conference for personal use and a school district issued credit card funded with public monies for groceries, hotels and meals outside his duties as a school board member. The amount of public monies involved is alleged to be $732.82.

McIver was released earlier today from the Florence County Detention Center on a $5,000.00 personal recognizance bond.
