SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR SHOOTING AT UTILITY CREW


SUBJECT: Joshua Anthony Kelly, age 33, of 2560 Hill Top Lane, Lot 21, Quinby, SC was arrested by FCSO Investigators on September 18, 2019 and charged with two counts of Pointing and Presenting (S.C. Code Ann. 16-23-410), Malicious Injury to Property (S.C. Code Ann. 16-11-510(A)) and three counts of Attempted Murder (S.C. Code Ann. 16-03-029). See FCSO Booking Website for additional details.

NARRATIVE: Deputies with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Sandpit Road area near Florence yesterday in reference to a call that a suspect had shot at a utility crew working in the area. According to Investigators, a four person tree trimming crew contracted by Duke Energy to mark trees near power lines came under attack from Joshua Anthony Kelly. Investigators allege that Kelly pointed a shotgun at the face of two crew members, threatening to kill them, and also shot at the crew members while they were in their utility truck.

FCSO Special Response Team (SRT) and Aviation Unit also responded. After a short standoff at Kelly’s residence, he surrendered to deputies and was taken into custody. Kelly is being held at the Florence County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
