FCSO URGES PROPER DISPOSAL OF EXPIRED OR UNUSED PRESCRIPTION MEDS

Sheriff Kenney Boone is pleased to announce that the FLORENCE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE will be taking part in the DEA National Take Back Initiative again this year. Due to the increase in overdose deaths from prescription opioids, the risk of unintended poisoning, as well as potential damage to the environment, proper disposal of prescribed drugs that are expired or otherwise no longer needed is critical to ensure these drugs are destroyed and don’t find their way into our community.

In the Lobby of the Florence County Law Enforcement Complex located at 6719 Friendfield Road in Effingham, S.C. FCSO provides a secure collection box where you can bring your expired or unused medication/prescriptions for proper disposal. This box is available for use during normal business hours (9:00 – 5:00pm Monday through Friday) with the exception of County Holidays.

In addition, during the 2018 DEA National Take Back Initiative on Saturday, April 28, 2018 between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, FCSO will be offering collection services for any expired or unwanted PRESCRIPTION medications. If you have these medications and cannot deliver them to the drop box in Effingham, please call Lt. Kathleen Streett at (843) 665-2121 ext. 319 or Sgt. Andrew Clendenin at (843) 665-2121 ext. 343 to arrange for pickup or if you have any questions.
