FCSO ARRESTS SUSPECT MAKING BOMB THREATS


SUBJECT: Arbie Hugh Turner, age 37, of 4268 Cato Road, Effingham, SC 29541 was arrested by Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office on April 24, 2018 and charged with one count of Assault and Battery, First Degree (S.C. Code Ann. 16-03-600 (C)(1)) and four counts of Making a Bomb Threat(S.C. Code Ann. 16-23-0750). See FCSO Booking Website for additional details.

NARRATIVE: FCSO Investigators, with assistance of the FCSO SWAT Team arrested Arbie Hugh Turner on April 24, 2018 and charged him with one count of Assault and Battery, First Offense and four counts of Making a Bomb Threat. According to Investigators, at his Effingham residence located at 4268 Cato Road, Turner is alleged to have set a victim in the house on fire while the victim was asleep. Turner is later alleged to have sent text messages threatening to use an explosive device to cause destruction to four governmental buildings in the area with the expressed intention to cause mass casualties. A search of Turner’s residence revealed no bomb making material or devices.

Under South Carolina law, the false making of a bomb threat is a felony punishable by between one and ten years in prison.

Turner is being held at the Florence County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
