FCSO ARRESTS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT WITH GUN
SUBJECT: Michael McKenzie, Jr., age 17, of 411 East Glendale Drive, Florence, SC 29506 was arrested by Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office on June 22, 2017 and charged with Carrying Weapons on School Property (S.C. Code Ann. 16-23-430) and Providing False Statement to Law Enforcement (S.C. Code Ann. 16-17-725). See FCSO Booking Website for additional information.
NARRATIVE: Two area high school students were taken into custody on June 22, 2017 after the discharge of a firearm on school premises. According to Investigators, at approximately 8:00 AM one student at Wilson High School sustained a self-inflicted gunshot to the foot while in an occupied vehicle and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The injured student is a juvenile who is charged with Carrying of a Weapon on School Property, Possession of a Stolen Handgun and Providing False Information to Law Enforcement.
Another student, Michael McKenzie, Jr. was also arrested and charged by Investigators with Carrying Weapons on School Property and Providing False Statement to Law Enforcement. McKenzie is being held at the Florence County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.
