FCSO CHARGES FORMER CORRECTIONS OFFICER


SUBJECT: Erica Brown, age 28, of 16 Franklin Street, Sumter, SC 29150 was arrested by Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office on April 25, 2017 and charged with one count of Misconduct in Office ( S.C. Code Ann. C/L, 17-25-030) and one count of Furnishing Contraband to a Prisoner (S.C. Code Ann. 24-07-155). See FCSO Booking Website for additional information.

NARRATIVE: FCSO Investigators have charged a former Florence County Detention Center corrections officer with Misconduct in Office and Furnishing Contraband to a Prisoner. According to Investigators, at various times during the months of February and March, 2017, Erica Brown, while a corrections officer at FCDC is alleged to have provided an inmate with a cell phone. Under South Carolina law, a cell phone is considered contraband and providing the same to an inmate is a violation of state law. In addition, Investigators allege that while in her capacity as a corrections officer, Brown engaged in an inappropriate relationship with an inmate. According to Investigators, the alleged relationship was discovered after Brown’s employment at FCDC ended.

Brown was released from the Florence County Detention Center on a $5000.00 surety bond.
