MURDER SUSPECT IN CUSTODY
SUBJECT: Merrick Jason Matthews, age 38, of 2320 Tifton Drive, Darlington, SC was arrested by Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office on April 24, 2017 and charged with Murder (S.C. Code Ann. 16-03-10). See FCSO Booking Website for additional information.
NARRATIVE: Merrick Jason Matthews, age 38, of 2320 Tifton Drive, Darlington, SC wanted by FCSO in connection with the shooting death of Michael Harvey Cox, was arrested today. According to Investigators, Matthews is alleged to have shot and killed Cox, age 31at the America’s Best Value Inn located at 3024 TV Road in Florence County in the early morning hours of April 2, 2017. Matthews was taken into custody yesterday in Darlington County by agents with the U.S. Marshals Service and Darlington County Sheriff’s Office all working in conjunction with FCSO Deputies and the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force, Florence Division.
Matthews is being held at the Florence County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing before a Circuit Court Judge.
