FCSO MAKES DRUG AND GUN ARREST FOLLOWING TRAFFIC STOP



SUBJECT: Justin Dwayne Barr, age 32, of 1731 Oakhurst Road, Scranton, SC 29591 was arrested by Deputies with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office on February 28, 2017 and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine (S.C. Code Ann. 44-53-370(b)(2)), Trafficking Crack (S.C. Code Ann. 44-53-375(C)(1)), Possession of a Weapon During Commission of Violent Crime (S.C. Code Ann. 16-23-490), Resisting Arrest/Assault on a Police Officer (S.C. Code Ann. 16-09-320(B), Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol (S.C. Code Ann. 16-23-20,50), Possession of Marijuana, Second or Subsequent Offense (S.C. Code Ann. 44-53-370(D)(4)) and Possession of Handgun by Prohibited Person (S.C. Code Ann. 16-23-30, 50). NARRATIVE: On February 28, 2017 at approximately 5:13 P.M. a Florence County Sheriff’s Deputy assigned to the Pro-Active Community Enforcement (PACE) Team initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Ron McNair Boulevard and Morris Street in Lake City, SC for a moving violation. When the deputy requested the driver, Justin Dwayne Barr step out of the vehicle, Barr attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended a short time later by the deputy after a brief physical altercation. The deputy sustained minor injuries as a result of the altercation.

Afterward, Barr was allegedly found to be in possession of a quantity of illegal substances, including marijuana (second or subsequent offense), crack (trafficking) and cocaine (intent to distribute). Barr was also allegedly found to be in possession of an illegal weapon. Barr is being held at the Florence County Detention Center on a $35,000.00 surety bond. The investigation into this matter is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
