FCSO Arrests Burglary Suspect

SUBJECT: Lorenzo Leevern Sumter, age 29, of 6624 Meadow Prong Road, Effingham, SC 29541-7303 was arrested by Deputies with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office on May 25, 2015 and charged with Burglary, First Degree (S.C. Code Section 16-11-311). See FCSO Booking Website for additional details.

NARRATIVE: On Monday, May 25, 2015, at approximately 5:52 AM Florence County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress on West John Paul Road, Timmonsville, SC. Deputies arrived on scene at approximately 5:59 AM. According to the victim, she was awakened from her sleep by noises inside the residence, and upon investigating the source, found and confronted the suspect inside the residence. The suspect then fled the scene running toward Country Lane. At approximately 6:06 AM, deputies located a suspect matching the description provided by the victim coming out of a wooded area near 5303 Country Lane. Sumter was taken into custody at that location and has been charged with Burglary, First Degree.

Sumter remains at the Florence County Sheriff’s Office as bond has been denied by a Florence County Magistrate.

“Credit our deputies with a prompt response and a great result in this case,” Sheriff Kenney Boone stated.

Under South Carolina law, a conviction for Burglary, First Degree carries a penalty of 15 years to life in prison.
