FCSO Gets New Tracking Canine
Meet Sugar, the newest addition to the FCSO Bloodhound Tracking Team. Sugar is a 20 week old bloodhound donated to the Law Enforcement Advocacy Foundation (LEAF) by Jack Brown, a U.S. Air Force veteran, retired police officer from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and Pinkerton Detective Agency with the instruction that she be donated to an appropriate law enforcement agency in our area. LEAF donated Sugar to FCSO.
“A lot goes into deciding where the dogs go,” said Stacey Watts, Executive Director for LEAF. “Obviously, our main concern is the safety and wellbeing of the dog, where they are housed and who they will be paired with. We always go to FCSO first to see if they need the donation for the simple fact that it’s our hometown and we know how the dogs are treated and maintained. FCSO was chosen for Sugar because she was needed and we knew that she would be in great hands.”
“We welcome Sugar as our newest blood hound in training,” Sheriff Kenney Boone stated. “As soon as she is old enough and trained, she will join our other tracing canines to help us locate fleeing suspects, lost children and wandering Alzheimer’s victims. We appreciate all LEAF does for our agency and other law enforcement entities in our area to purchase assets and equipment we couldn’t otherwise justify.”
LEAF (www.protectourofficers.com) is a non-profit organization that focuses on raising funds to purchase safety, training and tactical equipment for local law enforcement agencies.
