The Civil Department executes a variety of tasks such as the performance of routine law enforcement work; transportation of prisoners, jurors, mentally ill patients, and others to appropriate locations; patrolling assigned areas; and arresting violators. The Department also performs the service of civil papers.

The Legal Records Clerks are a part of the Civil Department. The Records Clerks preparing, processing and maintaining legal records and documents, and a variety of other tasks at the request of the supervisor. The Clerks also assist in coordinating Sheriff's sales for executions against property and for abandoned property; researches and compiles information related to specific properties to be sold.
