Panel recommends Blagojevich impeachment
An Illinois legislative committee voted unanimously today to recommend the impeachment of Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was arrested last month after federal prosecutors alleged he had tried to sell the Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama. The issue now heads to the full state House of Representatives, which will consider it Friday.

Unarmed man's shooting spurs riots
Protests erupted shortly after a young man killed by an Oakland, California, subway police officer was laid to rest, according to local media and iReporters. Footage from CNN affiliate KTVU-TV showed demonstrators rampaging through the streets protesting the death of Oscar Grant, a 22-year-old father who was killed on New Year's Day in a crowded train station.
