Up to 5,000 people are feared dead in today's earthquake in one China county alone, the Chinese government said. The quake reportedly left hundreds of students buried in their schools. The 7.8-magnitude quake was "felt in most parts of China," the Xinhua news agency reported.
Powerful storms killed 22 people in three states over the weekend, including an Oklahoma mother who died while huddling over her child, authorities said. Her son survived with facial injuries. Late Sunday the storm system hit the coast off the Carolinas, officials said.
