Florence County Deputies assigned to the Criminal
Enforcement Unit (CEU) will address 11th and 12th grade students at
Dutch Fork High School Students in Richland County tomorrow on
drug and contraband interdiction on Interstate Highways and other
locations.  This Unit, just back from assisting the United States Customs
and Border Protection and the U.S. Border Patrol Joint Anti-
terrorism/Contraband Enforcement Team (AT-CET) in inspections at
the U.S./Mexico border at El Paso, Texas, will educate the “It Kids”
at Dutch Fork High School led by classroom teacher, Kelly Payne on their
interdiction activities.  This elite unit of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office
will demonstrate some of their specialized equipment and techniques which
have made them standout in the field of drug and contraband interdiction.
During their week with the Border Patrol, this unit seized over 1100 pounds
marijuana, over 800 pounds of which was discover in one tractor trailer
truck attempting to enter the country.
“We are justifiably proud of this Unit, which has been a leader in the
Criminal Enforcement community,” Sheriff Kenney Boone stated.  “We are
always glad for them to take their message about drugs into the high schools,
not just in Florence, but around the state.  The more we can educate our
youth to stay away from drugs, the better their lives, and the
communities they live in, will be.”
