Florence County Deputies Selected to Protect the US-Mexico Border. PDF Print E-mail

Deputies from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Enforcement Unit (CEU) have been selected by United States Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Border Patrol to participate in the inspection of vehicles and individuals entering the United States at the U.S. Port of Entry Stations at El Paso, Texas this week.  At the largest of three points of entry at El Paso, over 1300 vehicles cross the border from Mexico into the United States per hour.  The Florence County CEU worked with agents from the United States Customs and Border Protection and the U. S. Border Patrol joint Anti-terrorism/Contraband Enforcement Team (AT-CET) in the inspection efforts.  During the week of operation, Florence County CEU interdicted over 1100 pounds of marijuana, over 800 pounds of which was discovered on one tractor-trailer truck.

“Our CEU was selected by Customs and Border Protection and the Border Patrol to participate in this elite operation because of their recognized expertise in contraband interdiction.  We are proud of their work here and on the nation’s border,” Sheriff Kenney Boone stated.
